The remote control for the Solaris medical laser uses icons rather than text. This not only reduces translation and inventory costs, it makes it easier to see and use in surgical environments. As is often the case with medical device submission manuals, no device prototype actually existed at the time the document was created. This device illustration, created entirely in Photoshop, was based on engineering drawings, user interface design specs, and interviews with engineers and product managers.
